REMEMBER ... DO YOU HAVE AN ESCAPE PLAN IN THE EVENT OF A FIRE ?
featuring Adaptabars
introduction to Security Bars Window
Bars & grilles are a proven method of improving security levels of windows and doors, but are they safe ?
When choosing bar or grille Security Bars Window systems, careful consideration must be given to safety as well as security issues,
e.g. fixed bars or grilles should obviously not be installed across fire escape windows / routes, etc.
Ideal for D.I.Y or professional installation, Security Bars Window from AdaptaBars offer a practical solution to protecting vulnerable windows
where the cost of a made to measure grille would be prohibitive.
Each telescopic bar set is made up of a solid steel bar section and a robust steel tube section.
This versatile modular Security Bars Window grille system is available off the shelf in flatpack form. You choose exactly what you want -
install bars only, alternatively you can turn the system into a customised grille by adding lateral spacer bars -
practical protection for almost any window or door.
For maximum benefit consider the use of Security Bars Window fastenings during installation.
The bars offer protection for any window or aperture from 300 mm - 2,000 mm in height and of any width.
Their adjustability means that even if you get the measurements slightly wrong when you order the Security Bars Window you should still
be able to complete the installation safely and easily (unlike trying to install a fixed grill system that is 2mm too
tall for the aperture it was ordered for.)
It is easy to work out how many bars you will need - simply mark the horizontal centre of the window aperture then mark
the sill at appropriate bar centre intervals. For security applications bars should be fitted at 5" (125mm) centres
(BS8220) whilst for child safety applications, building regulations recommend 4" (100mm) between Security Bars Window centres. For
economy installations, they can also supply spacers with 6" (150mm) bar centres.
When using longer bars (e.g. such as on a door) use of an extra central fixing clamp is advised (e.g secured to the
cross bar of the door). Centre clamps are included as standard with each door bar set and are available as an optional
purchase for use with other bars.

Lateral spacers are available as an option and their use is recommended when installing longer length window bars. They
are designed to foil attempts to prize the bars apart and add significantly to the overall grill security for larger
apertures. They can be installed as a single strip or can be formed into attractive geometric patterns.
For security applications bars should be fitted at 5" (125mm) centres (BS8220) whilst for child safety applications,
building regulations recommend 4" (100mm) between bar centres. For economy installations, they can also supply spacers

For maximum security, use of security fastenings is recommended when installing bars and grilles.
